Curry Vegetable / Sayur Lodeh (素菜咖哩)

Picture 1 of 6

We always cook Curry Chicken and never really try on Curry Vegetable. I guess it is more troublesome by just to prepare different types of vegetables, rinse, cut and pre-cook in order to make the dish. However I’ve decided to give it a try as a challenge and great to consume more vegetables too.

Below is just a simple guideline on the types of vegetables to be prepared for this dish. You can always opt in or out on the varieties based on your preference. The most important is actually to make the ground spice from scratch and to adjust the right taste during cooking. You need to adjust the seasoning when cooking. This is a Malay style Curry Vegetable or so called Sayur Lodeh, Curry Vegetable Stew.  Since this was my first time of making the Curry Vegetable, I gave it 3.5 out of 5 difficulty level. If you think this is too complicated, you can always use the easy ready made vegetable/ chicken curry paste available in the Asian market. Next time I will try it out for a simpler and quicker version.

No doubt, I love curry and grew up eating all kind of curry dishes. Curry chicken with potatoes is one of those delicate curry dishes that can be easily found in Malaysia. There are many variations of curry chicken; Chinese, Indian, Malay and Nyonya. If you are a huge fan of curry, you are not able to resist the temptation.

My mom makes good curry as she was a food hawker and I often ask her for recipes. Easy Nyonya Curry Fish Fillet

Picture 1 of 5

I love hot and spicy food until I can spread chili sauce on my bread for food. Crazy me, I know, but that happened in my childhood.  Now I am always seeking for more varieties and challenges in spicy food, especially when I am craving for spicy food after all the Chinese New Year food in these couple of weeks.  I have recently found this “special ingredient” and was very excited to share with you how to cook this easy-to-prepare Nyonya Curry Fish Fillet. This curry fish recipe is a famous Nyonya cuisine, which combines the spicy hot curry flavor with extra sourish taste and spices that make it so appetizing.

If you first heard of  Nyonya cuisine, here’s a simple introduction to the Nyonya traditions which are gathered way back over hundred years ago, when the first Chinese settlers married the local Malay brides in Malacca. They gave birth and raise the first generation of Mixed Chinese-Malays known as peranakan.  The boy is known as Baba and girl is known as Nyonya. The Nyonya delicacies are the combination of Chinese and Malay dishes that were being brought down over the generations.

Curry is a famous daily food in Asia. Especially curry chicken is  top ranked because chicken can be served to all religions as some religions have restrictions on food. You can see curry chicken dishes everywhere in food stands, hawker stalls or restaurants. Common enough but very delicious.

When I was still a 3rd grader, my family loves to picnic at the beach. I remembered my mom always prepare curry chicken to bring along for picnic. Curry gave me full favor of spices, as well as my childhood family memories.   The curry chicken sauce is a good to serve with a variety of food, with rice,  bread, noodle or even Chinese pan cake.
